“If you can dream it, you can do it.” – Walt Disney
There are times when we just need to stop and watch the world around us. Birds have something important to tell us about what it takes to navigate this world, especially under challenging circumstances, something we all need right now.
As a team of keen birdwatchers, we wanted to harness the power of AI and marry it with something that would allow us to get a step closer to nature. Thus, was born the idea of Smart Birdwatching that would enable us to study, observe, record and archive all aspects of birds.
Here’s why you should become a birdwatcher today:
In 2021, more than 51,000 people spanning 192 countries celebrated the birds around them for Global Big Day. Together, the global birding community set new records for the most significant number of birders from most countries, reporting more species and more checklists on a single day of birding than ever before.
Did you know, globally, around 3 million international trips are dedicated to birdwatching every year?
o No matter where you live, there are birds around you. Perhaps not a significant number of birds, maybe not many bird species, but they are there.
o Human beings are not alone in the world. But in modern society, our contacts with our fellow creatures are artificially constrained. We need to be connected to nature and other living creatures. Birds can be that connection for us, or they can be only the beginning of broader relations with the natural world.
o Birds get us outside, out of the air conditioning or forced-air heat, and perhaps out of our comfort zone. Anything we do, from a demanding hike in the woods to a bird walk with a local bird club, to just going out to clean or fill the birdwatching device, is beneficial—mentally and physically.
o Bird watching is a hobby you tailor to fit yourself; you can be as involved in it as you want to be. You may start watching birds, learn to identify some of your backyard birds and become familiar with their habits—and that’s enough to add a whole new element of interest and enjoyment to your daily life.
o Bird watchers are, for the most part, the friendliest, most helpful, and most interesting people we’ve known. It makes no difference how much you know about birds or even if you know anything at all. Having a common interest makes forming friendships remarkably easy.
o Unlike many interests or hobbies, birding is non-seasonal. There is always something interesting to see and something to anticipate. Watching birds year-round keeps us in tune with the seasons, more acutely aware of the whole spectrum of seasonal changes and rhythms than most of us are otherwise, given our insulated lifestyles.
o Being interested in birds keeps us learning, always wanting to know more and understand more. The study of birds invariably touches on several other subjects: biology, history, geography, and sociology.
o The more you learn about birds, their needs, and the challenges and even crises many species face, the more concerned and involved you’re likely to become in supporting wildlife habitat conservation and restoration efforts.
Smart Birdwatching
Through the Smart Birdwatching initiative, we want to promote and encourage the conservation of birds in their natural environment. The wonders of nature are a mystery to many, and we often find ourselves unable to recognise much of what we see.
As with any drawback in modern life, we turn to the internet for the answers. And that got us thinking. How many others were standing, staring and then whipping out their smartphones to learn more? When the Covid induced lockdowns began, we often heard people, “Nature is making a comeback!” but what was actually happening was that we were halting in our paths and noticing our surroundings more.
You can have the Smart Birdwatching apparatus in your quaint kitchen garden or sprawling orchard, on your balcony or just outside your window and get to know your feathered friends up close and personal.
Every time a bird comes to the AI-powered Smart Birdwatching device, an intelligent camera captures its images and relays them to your laptop or mobile phone and provides you with all the details attached to the species.
Did you know there are 9,000+ bird species known in the world today?
The robust bird database can identify most birds and provide an overview of the corresponding birds. With this birdwatching device with a camera, you never have to worry about not recognising new birds!
- The Smart Birdwatching device will notify you whenever a bird stops by. It’s one of those rare notifications that will make you feel excited, not sad!
- You have complete control of the device’s built-in camera from the comfort of your home.
- You can never get as close to your fearful feathered friends as this Smart Birdwatching device’s camera can.
- The Smart Birdwatching AI will recognise all the birds that visit you. Fill up your album with all the bird species that live in your region!
With Smart Birdwatching, you’re contributing enormously important information to the bird migrations and populations database to help experts better understand and protect them. Observing wildlife has been an excellent lockdown project for many of us, and we are hopeful that others join us in this movement as we take a step ahead to connect to nature.
Birding is catching up with the times in other ways. A lasting change in bird awareness and eagerness to quickly identify birds in our surroundings will benefit not only our souls but the planet as a whole.
